Signal App

Signal is a cross platform encrypted service developed by the Signal Foundation and Signal Messenger. It uses internet to send one-to-one and group messages, which can include files, voice notes, images and videos. It can also be used to make one-to-one and group voice and video calls. On the Android version, it can optionally function as an SMS app.

Signal software is free and open source and use telephone number as identifiers. It is free and open source and can be downloaded from Google Play Store. This software can run over android, ios and desktop.

How Signal is different from Whatsapp:
Messages sent through Signal are said to be encrypted, meaning the platform cannot access private messages or media, or store them on their server.

While WhatsApp also provides end-to-end encryption for messages, it can access other private information like IP address, group details and status. The company stores on the cloud.
